FA Cup draw sends the Dons away to familiar opposition

The draw for the First Round of this season's FA Cup gave the Dons a potential banana-skin tie away at League Two side Crewe Alexandra. Johnnie Jackson will be keen to avoid another early exit in the famous competition.

The FA Cup has always had a strong place in the club's heart. The team's fantastic run in the mid-70s saw them take on Leeds United and force a replay, leading to the 1988 success when they beat Liverpool in the final.

Since then, the deep runs have been few and far between. A notable run in 1997 saw them reach the semi-final, and just a few years ago in 2019 they beat West Ham United 4-2 on a loud night at Kingsmeadow, before bowing out in the last 16 to a single Millwall goal. In very recent times, the Dons have had some days to forget as they have been beaten by opposition in lower divisions.
