The day the Dons put five past Spurs and kept European hopes alive

It's late February 1991. Wimbledon are defying all the odds again, and after a 3-0 loss at Elland Road to a very good Leeds United, the Dons are on a five-game unbeaten league run, including a credible 1-1 draw at leaders Liverpool. Sixth-placed Tottenham Hotspur are next up at Plough Lane.
Manager Ray Harford described the matchday programme notes as “one of the most attractive fixtures of the season”, and the star-studded squad was led by manager Terry Venables. Their marquee player Paul Gascoigne was absent from the Spurs lineup due to an apparent groin injury, but maybe being held back from Wimbledon’s often physical approach as he was rumoured to be off to Italy at the end of the season. Tottenham still had the likes of Justin Edinburgh, Gary Mabbutt, Nayim, and Gary Lineker to deal with.
